ABOUT
“Off The Air" is a grassroots arts movement powered by local, independent musicians, painters and fans of culture determined to create a young, vibrant, forward thinking community in Modesto that supports those who choose to live and express themselves artistically in the Central Valley. The organizer of Off The Air presents one to two shows monthly at various locations in the downtown Modesto area featuring the best local and touring independent music acts as well as providing local artists and good makers a “gallery” to display and sell their art.
What People Are Saying About Off The Air
“Off The Air is a milestone in Modesto arts culture, almost single-handedly creating a venue for people from varied backgrounds who all have the same love: original live music. But really it transcends just excellent live music - the art exhibitions, live painting, fashion, hand made crafts - it provides a place for an ever-expanding circle of friends who know that they will have a great time. It is THE place to be every month.” —Adrian Mendoza, Photojournalist
“Off The Air is monumentally important because it is about LOVE! In a world full of drudgery and just getting by and cut-throat business tactics, Off The Air is presenting shows simply to make everyone happy! The artists, the audience and the presenters themselves. If all of the world could be a little more like Off The Air, we'd have more hugs and fewer thugs.” —Dina Waxman, Musician
“The Off the Air series brings quality indie rock music and art shows to Modesto every month. Greg does a great job of bringing in both local talent and out-of-the area groups. The shows attract a diverse array of people from early 20s to 40s and beyond. It's wonderful to see people in a range of ages enjoying entertainment together. The Off the Air series adds to the nightlife of Modesto and makes the city a more appealing place to live.” —Lisa Millegan, Arts Writer, The Modesto Bee
“Independent music, to me, is one of the last bastions of truly creative music, meaning that the "genre" strives to create new genres, and shies away from trends and what the major labels promote as being marketable. Off the Air is important because independent music is important, and local champions of said music have been too few in years past. Support for local independent music has often been, dare I say, discouraging, forcing our creative artists to play out of the area just to give them some sense of recognition. Off The Air has been monumental in not only providing great venues for local indie music, but for promoting an entire scene, growing a nurturing environment for artists, and bringing an awareness to the populous-at-large that these things are going on in our town. A public relations juggernaut if you will.” —Chris Doud, Musician
